Check-in and badge pickup can be done in advance; check back soon about times. Masters players must be ready in the venue by 30 June 2023 at 9:00 EDT (13:00 UTC) for the players meeting. The tournament starts right thereafter with the Day 1 Swiss rounds.

Day 2 Swiss rounds or top cut (depending on final attendance) will be played on 1 July 2023 at 9:00 EDT (13:00 UTC). Seniors and Juniors players start their tournament on this day, but regardless of the date, Seniors and Juniors will also play with Regulation Set C.

Championship Sunday finals will be played on 2 July 2023 at 9 am local time (13:00 UTC), starting with Pokémon Go, then Pokémon TCG and finally Pokémon VGC (Masters finals estimated around 2:30 pm EDT / 18:30 UTC).

Prizes

This event is one of the three International Championships that are part of the 2023 official TPCI circuit, the most important tournament tier after the World Championships, and thus it rewards Championship Points (CPs).

A set of goodies is given to all participating players.

Overview

The North America International Championships, or NAIC, is one of the four official TPCI International events for Pokémon VGC, TCG and Pokémon GO, alongside the Latin America (absent from the VGC circuit this season), Oceania and Europe Internationals. It will also host the Pokémon UNITE North America Regional Finals. For VGC, it is the third and last Internationals of the 2023 season and of the new games Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet. Pending an announcement, it is also the last event in the world in the travel award race for the 2024 season’s first IC.

The ruleset is VGC Regulation Set C for all age divisions and it will be played using open team lists.

A little bit of history

The United States has been part of the North America region of the official TPCI circuit since the very beginning, also being home to the TPCI headquarters. It has hosted multiple major events, including Regional Championships, old-era National Championships, all editions of the North America International Championships and almost all World Championships (only excluding 2013, 2022 and the upcoming 2023). The United States’ greatest VGC success are the four World Championship wins achieved by Ray Rizzo (2010, 2011 and 2012) and Wolfe Glick (2016), not even counting being the home country of 6 Senior Division and 5 Junior Division World Champions too.

The most recent tournament held in the United States (not counting Puerto Rico) was the 2023 Fresno Regionals, played earlier in the month. The finals saw 2018 Worlds finalist Emilio Forbes defeat 2023 Oceania International Champion Gavin Michaels to achieve his third Regional title!

The last time the North America International Championships were held was the 2022 edition, also hosted in Columbus, OH, United States, and played in Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield with the VGC Series 12 ruleset in June 2022. The NAIC finals saw 2018 Senior Division World Champion James Evans defeat Brazilian Gabriel Agati to achieve the first major title of his Masters Division career!

Sign-up instructions

Sign-ups for the event are done through RK9 Labs platform, and you will first need to set up your RK9 profile and have a Play! Pokémon Player ID. All players must comply with the Play! Pokémon COVID-19 Protocols.

Sign-ups are $60 for Masters players and $40 for Seniors and Juniors players, and they open in several waves on 17 and 18 May 2023, and then a very limited wave on 20 June 2023.

First wave: sign-ups will open on 17 May at 9 am EDT (13:00 UTC).
Second wave: sign-ups will open on 17 May at 5 pm EDT (21:00 UTC).
Third wave: sign-ups will open on 18 May at 1 pm EDT (17:00 UTC).
Fourth wave: sign-ups will open on 20 June at 1 pm EDT (17:00 UTC).

If the cap is not reached, sign-ups close 2 days before the event, on 28 June 2023 at 11:59 pm EDT (29 June at 03:59 UTC).

For registered players, team lists must be submitted 1 hour 30 minutes before the event starts, by 30 June 2023 at 7:30 am EDT (11:30 UTC) for Masters players and by 1 July 2023 at 7:30 am local time (11:30 UTC) for Seniors and Juniors players. Paper team lists can also be found here.

Spectator passes are $10 and can be acquired through Rk9 Labs.

NAIC Travel Award recipients

The players with most Championship Points (CP) in the Travel Award standings from each TPCI region at the end of the NAIC Travel Award period (20 February to 16 April 2023) earned Travel Award prizes for this tournament:

Top 4 players in Europe, Latin America and Oceania receive a $3500 Travel Award ($5000 for minors)
Top 4 players in North America receive a $2000 Travel Award ($2500 for minors)
Players ranked 5th to 8th in each region receive a $1000 Travel Stipend

Additionally, Top 4 players in Players Cups I, II and III may opt to use their Travel Award for this tournament if they have not done so yet.
