Players must be in the venue byĀ 20 May 2023 at 8:30 am local time (12:30 UTC) for the players meeting. The tournament will start afterwards with the Swiss rounds.
The Day 2 Swiss rounds, if any, and the top cut will be played starting onĀ 21 May 2023.
Prizes
This event is part of theĀ 2023 official TPCI circuitĀ and thus it rewards Championship Points (CPs).
As a participation goodie, all players will be provided a PokĆ©mon Regional Championships promo card, an event hat, anĀ Ultra PROĀ drawstring bag and an Ultra PRO 15% off coupon. Players could also purchase:
- āStage 1 Packageā, which added an event T-shirtĀ and two side-event ticketsĀ to the goodies;

If prize money is $5000 or more, it will be given as a choice of scholarship (in all cases) or cash (for minors, as a PokĆ©mon VisaĀ® Prepaid Card). For lower prizes, it will be given as cash (for minors, as a PokĆ©mon VisaĀ® Prepaid Card).
Overview
The Hartford Regionals is an official TPCI Regional-level event for PokĆ©mon VGC, TCG and PokĆ©mon GO.Ā It is the eighth Regionals of theĀ 2023 seasonĀ in the North American circuit, and, pending an announcement, very likely the second in the travel award race for the 2024 season’s first IC.
The ruleset isĀ VGC Regulation Set CĀ and it will be played using open team lists.
A little bit of history
The United StatesĀ has been part of the North America region of the official TPCI circuit since the very beginning, also being home to the TPCI headquarters. It has hosted multiple major events, including Regional Championships, old-era National Championships, all editions of the North America International ChampionshipsĀ and almost all World Championships (only excluding 2013, 2022 and the upcoming 2023).Ā The United States’ greatest VGC success are the four World Championship wins achieved byĀ Ray RizzoĀ (2010, 2011 andĀ 2012) andĀ Wolfe GlickĀ (2016), not even counting being the home country of 6 Senior Division and 5 Junior Division World Champions too.
The most recent tournament held in the United StatesĀ will be theĀ 2023 Portland Regionals, played earlier in the same month. The finals saw 2020 Portland Regional ChampionĀ Joseph Ugarte, who had placed second in the previous two North American Regionals, defeat ChineseĀ Ding ZishuoĀ to achieve his second Regional title in the same place he earned the first one over 3 years ago.
The last time there was an event in ConnecticutĀ was theĀ 2019 Hartford Regionals, played in PokĆ©mon Ultra SunĀ & PokĆ©mon Ultra MoonĀ with the VGC19 Ultra Series ruleset in May 2019. TheĀ finalsĀ saw AmericanĀ Tommy CooleenĀ defeat fellow countrymanĀ Kyle LivinghouseĀ to achieve his first-ever major title.
AmericanĀ James Evans, theĀ 2018 Senior Division World Champion, defeated BrazilianĀ Gabriel AgatiĀ in the NAIC finals.
Sign-up instructions
Sign-ups for the event are done throughĀ RK9 Labs platform, and you will first need to set up your RK9 profileĀ and have aĀ Play! PokĆ©mon Player ID. All players must comply with theĀ Play! PokĆ©mon COVID-19 Protocols.
Sign-ups are $69.20Ā for all age divisions and theyĀ open on 4 April 2023 at 8 pm local time (5 April at 00:00 UTC).
If the player cap is not reached, sign-ups close 2 hours before the event, on 20 May 2023 at 6:30 am local time (10:30 UTC).
For registered players, team lists must be submitted 1 hour before the event starts, by 20 May 2023 at 7:30 am local time (11:30 UTC). Paper team lists can also be foundĀ here.
