A little bit of history
Online Competitions are usually a part of the casual gameplay, but they have been featured in the official circuit for some years now. They are one of the few tournaments in which all world regions play together, and it generally grants National invites in TPC regions and Championship Points in TPCI regions.
The most recent Online Competition was the Trick Magic, played in November 2023 featuring single battles. The custom ruleset allowed for any non-Restricted Ghost-type Pokémon. First place was earned by Japanese player Kino, who earned a rating of 1886.8, and had already finished in first place in the Paldea Prologue Online Competition. Kino beat fellow countryman Otoha, who earned a rating of 1886.3.
The most recent Online Competition featuring double battles was the Kitakami Prologue, played in October 2023. The custom ruleset allowed for any Pokémon in the Kitakami regional Pokédex. First place was earned by 2017 World Champion Ryota Otsubo, who used this Rain team to finish at a rating of 1896. Ryota defeated fellow Japanese Hiroki Tsujikawa, who used a team centered around Assault Vest Grimmsnarl, Wellspring Mask Ogerpon, Bloodmoon Ursaluna and Chandelure to finish at a rating of 1865.
AmericanĀ James Evans, theĀ 2018 Senior Division World Champion, defeated BrazilianĀ Gabriel AgatiĀ in the NAIC finals.
