If prize money is $5000 or more, it will be given as a choice of scholarship (in all cases) or cash (for minors, as a Pokémon Visa® Prepaid Card). For lower prizes, it will be given as cash (for minors, as a Pokémon Visa® Prepaid Card).
Overview
The Bochum Regionals is an official TPCI Regional-level event for Pokémon VGC, TCG and Pokémon GO. It is the third Regional-level event in the 2023 season in the European circuit, the second played in Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet and the first in the NAIC travel award race.
The ruleset isĀ VGC Series 2Ā and it will be played using open team lists. This event is also the first-ever Regional-level event to feature the Two Day structure, previously only reserved for International Championships, which includes Day 2 Swiss rounds if there are 227 or more players.
A little bit of history
Germany has been part of the Europe region of the official TPCI circuit for many years. It has hosted multiple major events, including Regional Championships, old-era National Championships and theĀ 2019Ā andĀ 2022Ā Europe Internationals. Germany’s greatest VGC success happened whenĀ Markus StadterĀ reached semifinals of theĀ 2016 World Championships.
The most recent tournaments held in GermanyĀ was theĀ 2022 Bremen Regionals,Ā played in the VGC Sword & Shield Series 12 ruleset in May 2022. TheĀ finalsĀ saw GermanĀ Maurice UtegĀ defeat ItalianĀ Giovanni Piscitelli.
The last time there was an event in Bochum was theĀ 2020 Bochum Regionals, played in PokĆ©mon Sword & PokĆ©mon Shield with the VGC Series 2 ruleset in January 2020. TheĀ finalsĀ saw SpaniardĀ Guillermo CastillaĀ defeat fellow countrymanĀ Ćlex Soto.
Sign-up instructions
Sign-ups for the event are done through RK9 Labs platform, and you will first need to set up your RK9 profile and have a Play! Pokémon Player ID. All players must comply with the Play! Pokémon COVID-19 Protocols.
Sign-ups open on 19 January 2023 at 20:00 local time (19:00 UTC).
- For Masters players: sign-ups are ā¬54.99. There are 540 spots available for Masters players.
- For Seniors and Juniors players: sign-ups are ā¬34.99. There are 60 spots available for Seniors and Juniors players.
After initial sign-ups sold out, it was announced that over 80 additional slots would reopen on 30 January 2023 at 20:00 local time (19:00 UTC).
If the player cap is not reached, sign-ups close 2 hours 30 minutes before the event starts.
For registered players, team lists mustĀ be submitted 1 hour 30 minutes before the event starts, by 25 February 2023 at 08:00 local time (07:00 UTC). Paper team lists can also be foundĀ here.
Spectator passes are ā¬5 and can be purchased fromĀ 30 January 2023 at 20:00 local time (19:00 UTC) throughĀ RK9 Labs. There are 150 spots available.
