Overview
The Hong Kong Master Ball League is the most important VGC competition for players in Hong Kong and Macau, where TPC is responsible for the circuit since 2020.
It is the newly introduced National-like successor to the Hong Kong National Championships (under TPCi), held in 2016, and the Hong Kong Championships (under TPC), held from 2022 to 2024:
- 2016, won by
Or Kei Yin
- 2022, won by
Pan Si Ming
- 2023, won by
Wayne Yu
- 2024, won by
Ma Chun Yeung
The ruleset is VGC Regulation Set I, and it is played using open team lists. Contrary to previous tournaments in Hong Kong, this time the open team lists do not include the Natures.
A little bit of history
Hong Kong has been one of the regions on the official TPC circuit since June 2020, and it was part of the Oceania region of the official TPCi circuit before that. It has hosted multiple major events, including Regional Championships, Special Events, and both TPCi-era and current TPC-era National Championships. Hong Kong’s greatest VGC success was the top 16 achieved by Edward Cheung at the 2016 World Championships.
The most recent tournament held in Hong Kong was the 2025 Hong Kong Premier Ball League, played in Wan Chai with the VGC Regulation Set H in December 2024. The finals saw Hongkongese Kwok Siu Wai defeat 2021 Asia Players Cup quarterfinalist Ng Shiu Chung to win his first major title!
The last time a National-like tournament was held in Hong Kong was the 2024 Hong Kong Championships, also played in Wan Chai with the VGC Regulation Set G in June 2024. The finals saw 2022 Hong Kong Championships Finalist Ma Chun Yeung defeat 2-time Hong Kong Championships semifinalist Choi Yin Fung to win his first National title!
