Check-in can be the morning of the event from 11 am EST.

Players must be in the venue by 11 May at 12 pm ESTĀ (16:00 UTC) for the players meeting. The tournament starts thereafter with the Swiss rounds, and the top cut will be played right after them.

This event is part of theĀ 2024 official TPCi circuitĀ and thus it rewards Championship Points (CPs).

There are no participation goodies announced for this event. Further announcements may be made by the organizer.

Overview

The San Juan Special Event is an official TPCi Regional-level event for Pokémon VGC, TCG and Pokémon GO. It is the only Special Event and thirteenth Regional-level event of the 2024 season in the North American circuit.

The ruleset isĀ VGC Regulation Set G, and it is played using open team lists.

A little bit of history

Puerto RicoĀ has been part of the North America region of the official TPCi circuit for many years, as per its status as a territory of the United States. It has hosted multiple Special Events. Puerto Rico’s greatest VGC success is the second place achieved by Quentin ColónĀ at theĀ 2019 North America International Championships in the Seniors Division.

The most recent tournament held in Puerto RicoĀ was theĀ 2023 Caguas Special Event, played with the VGC Regulation Set CĀ in June 2023. The finals saw AmericanĀ Zackary ThornbergĀ defeat fellow countrymanĀ Sohaib MuftiĀ to achieve his first major event title!

AmericanĀ James Evans, theĀ 2018 Senior Division World Champion, defeated BrazilianĀ Gabriel AgatiĀ in the NAIC finals.

Sign-up instructions

Sign-ups for the event are done through the Play LATAM platform, and you will first need to set up your Play LATAM profile and have a Play! Pokémon Player ID. All players must comply with the Play! Pokémon COVID-19 Protocols.

Sign-ups are $30 USD and they open on 5 April 2024 at 5 pm EDTĀ (21:00 UTC). There are 100 spots for Masters players, 30 spots for Senior players and 30 spots for Junior players.

If the player cap is not reached, sign-ups close 2 hours before the event starts.

For registered players, team lists must be submitted 1 hour before the event starts, by 11 March 2023 at 9:00 local time (12:00 UTC). Paper team lists can also be foundĀ here.
