Overview
The Thailand National Championships is the most important VGC competition for players in Thailand, where TPC is responsible for the circuit since 2020.
It is the second edition of the Thailand National Championships, always under TPC. See the previous editions:
- 2022, won by
Chaiyawat Traiwichcha
The previous edition of the Thailand National Championships was open to everyone, and featured best-of-1 Swiss rounds + a best-of-3 single-elimination top cut. This is the first time that a qualifying method has been implemented, and the first time it is played in a pure single-elimination format.
The ruleset is VGC Regulation Set C and with closed team lists in the first rounds and open team lists from top 16 onwards.
A little bit of history
Thailand has been one of the regions hosting an the official TPC circuit since June 2020, and it was part of the Oceania region of the official TPCI circuit before that. Since the TPC takeover, it has taken part in Asia online tournaments, such as the Asia Players Cup, and has hosted the first-ever live event in 2022, the National Championship. Thailand’s greatest VGC success wereĀ Jirawiwat Thitasiri‘s victory at theĀ Asia Players Cup, as well asĀ Chaiyawat Traiwichcha‘sĀ 2022 National ChampionshipĀ win. Additionally, Thai players have proven themselves as a major team force and they achieved victory at theĀ 2022 World Cup of PokĆ©mon VGC.
The most recent tournament held in Thailand was the 2022 Thailand National Championships, played in Bangkok with the Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield VGC Series 12 ruleset in May 2022. The finals saw Thai Chaiyawat Traiwichcha defeat fellow countryman Narawitch Naenna to be crowned as first-ever Thailand National Champion.
AmericanĀ James Evans, theĀ 2018 Senior Division World Champion, defeated BrazilianĀ Gabriel AgatiĀ in the NAIC finals.
