Usage stats

Compare these stats with the ones at Bochum and Knoxville Regionals, held on the previous weekend in Europe and North America, respectively!

The number of Day 2 (top cut) players divided by Day 1 players is 7.1%. If a Pokémon has higher D2/D1 ratio than this value, it means it performed quite well, but if it is lower, it can be considered it underperformed.

Overview

The Perth Regionals is an official TPCI Regional-level event for Pokémon VGC, TCG and Pokémon GO. It is the first Regionals of the 2023 season in the Oceanian circuit, and also the first in the NAIC travel award race (it was supposed to be the only one in the NAIC travel award race until Sydney Regionals were rescheduled). It is the first event in the world not to require wearing a mask as a COVID-19 prevention measure.

The ruleset is VGC Regulation Set B and it will be played using open team lists. It is the first event in the world to be played in this format since its name change (it was until this point known as Series 2).

A little bit of history

Australia has been part of the Oceania region of the official TPCI circuit since they were established. It has hosted multiple major events, including Regional Championships, old-era National Championships and all editions of OCIC since its inception in 2017. Australia’s greatest VGC success is Nicholas Kan‘s 2017 Junior Division World Championship win, while in the Masters Division Sam Pandelis reached that same year the finals at the 2017 World Championships.

The most recent tournament held in Australia was the 2022 Oceania International Championships, played with the VGC Regulation Set B in February 2023. The OCIC finals saw 2013 United States National Champion Gavin Michaels defeat fellow American Alberto Lara.

The last time there was an event in Perth was the 2022 Perth Regionals, played in Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield with the VGC Series 12 ruleset in May 2022. The finals saw Aussie Alister Sandover defeat fellow countryman Sam Pandelis.

American James Evans, the 2018 Senior Division World Champion, defeated Brazilian Gabriel Agati in the NAIC finals.

Sign-up instructions

Sign-ups for the event are done through RK9 Labs platform, and you will first need to set up your RK9 profile and have a Play! Pokémon Player ID. All players must comply with the Play! Pokémon COVID-19 Protocols, which was updated on the week leading up to the event to remove the compulsory general requirement to wear masks (after the update, it is up to the organizer to require them).

Sign-ups are A$35 for Masters players and A$25 for Seniors and Juniors players, and they open on 7 February 2023 at 7:00 am local time (6 February at 23:00 UTC).

If the player cap is not reached, sign-ups close 2 hours 30 minutes before the event starts.

For registered players, team lists must be submitted 2 hours before the event starts, by 4 March 2023 at 7:30 am local time (3 March at 23:30 UTC). Paper team lists can also be found here.

Spectator passes are A$10 and can be purchased through RK9 Labs.
