Overview
The Utrecht Regional Championships is an official TPCi Regional-level event for Pokémon VGC, TCG and Pokémon GO. It is the eighth Regional-level event and the seventh Regional Championships proper of the 2026 season in the European circuit.
The ruleset is VGC Regulation Set I, and it is played using open team lists.
A little bit of history
The Netherlands has been part of the Europe region of the official TPCI circuit for many years. It has hosted a few major events, including Regionals and Special Championships. The Netherlands’ greatest VGC success was Bram de Jonge‘s second place at the 2018 World Championships in the Seniors division, a feat repeated by Robbie Schaaij in 2023.
The most recent tournament held in the Netherlands, and coincidentally also played with the returning Regulation Set I, was the 2025 Utrecht SC, played in May 2025. The finals saw 2023 Worlds finalist Michael Kelsch defeat fellow German player Louis Markl to win his third major title, and second one in that season!
The last time there was a Regional (instead of a Special) Championships in the Netherlands was the 2016 Eindhoven Regional, played in Pokémon Omega Ruby & Pokémon Alpha Sapphire with the VGC16 ruleset. The finals saw 2012 Italy National Champion in the Senior division Luca Breitling-Pause defeat fellow German player Timo Koppetsch to win his first Regional Championships title in the Masters division!
