Overview
The Taiwan National Championships is the most important VGC competition for players in Taiwan, where TPC is responsible for the circuit since 2020.
It is the fourth edition of the Taiwan National Championships and the third in the TPC era. It has been celebrated only since 2022 in the TPC era as it had to be cancelled both in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 situation in Taiwan. See the previous editions:
Pending confirmation of the format, previous editions of the tournament have been played as 2-day Swiss + single-elimination top 8 bracket (2022) and as a pure single-elimination bracket (2023), with all matches played as best-of-3.
The ruleset is VGC Regulation Set G, and it is played using open team lists including Natures. It was initially announced to be using VGC Regulation Set F (the official ruleset from January to April 2024), but the decision was later reverted.
A little bit of history
Taiwan has been one of the regions hosting the official TPC circuit since June 2020, and it was part of the Oceania region of the official TPCI circuit before that. It has hosted multiple major events, including Regional Championships, Special Events, and both TPCI-era and current TPC-era National Championships. It was the only region in the world to consistently host major live events during the 2020–2022 seasons. Taiwan’s greatest VGC success was Wu Pi‘s 2019 Junior Division World Championship win.
The most recent tournament held in Taiwan was the 2023 Taiwan National Championships, played in the VGC Regulation Set C in May 2023. The finals saw 2023 Kaohsiung Regional Champion Yang Da-wei defeat 2023 Taipei Regional Champion Zhuang You-peng to win his first National title!
