Overview
The Peoria Regional Championships is an official TPCi Regional-level event for Pokémon VGC, TCG and Pokémon GO. It is the second Regional in the North American circuit.
The ruleset is VGC Regulation Set E, and it is played using open team lists. It will be the first event worldwide to use the new ruleset!
A little bit of history
The United States has been part of the North America region of the official TPCi circuit since the very beginning, also being home to the TPCi headquarters. It has hosted multiple major events, including Regional Championships, old-era National Championships, all editions of the North America International Championships and most World Championships (only excluding 2013, 2022 and 2023). The United States’ greatest VGC success are the four World Championship wins achieved by Ray Rizzo (2010, 2011 and 2012) and Wolfe Glick (2016), not even counting being the home country of 6 Senior Division and 5 Junior Division World Champions too.
The most recent tournament held in the United States will have been the 2024 Pittsburgh Regional, played in the VGC Regulation Set D in September 2023. The finals saw American Riley Factura defeat 2016 World Champion Wolfe Glick to win his fifth Regional Championship title!
The last time there was an event in Illinois was the 2020 Collinsville Regional, played in Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield with the VGC Series 2 ruleset in February 2020. The finals saw American Andrew Ding defeat 2016 World Champion Wolfe Glick to win his first Regional Championship title!
American James Evans, the 2018 Senior Division World Champion, defeated Brazilian Gabriel Agati in the NAIC finals.
Sign-up instructions
Sign-ups for the event are done through RK9 Labs platform, and you will first need to set up your RK9 profile and have a Play! Pokémon Player ID. All players must comply with the Play! Pokémon COVID-19 Protocols.
Sign-ups are $65 (+ $6.50 tax) and they open on 23 August at 7 pm CDT (24 August at 00:00 UTC). This wave sold out in a few minutes, with the organizer citing a lack of HORI stands for the reason behind the limited number of spots, and stating that they are trying to confirm a second wave. This wave included at least 295 spots for Masters players and at least 29 spots for Seniors and Juniors players.
A second wave opens on 7 September at 7 pm CDT (8 September at 00:00 UTC). With the HORI stands issue solved, this wave included an uncertain number of new spots (sources are unclear about the number of spots being new or total). The information was later updated to count 600 total spots for Masters players and 72 total spots for Seniors and Juniors players.
If the player cap is not reached, sign-ups close 2 hours before the event starts.
For registered players, team lists must be submitted 1 hour before the event starts, by 7 October at 7:30 am CDT (12:30 UTC).
Spectator passes are $20 (+ $2 tax) and can be purchased here. They include a side-event ticket.
